With the clocks going forward, British Summer Time is officially here. March certainly didn’t bring much Spring cheer – lets hope April does a better job. If like me you’re longing for warmer days, brighter evenings and lots of rides in the sunshine, here’s a little injection of colour to get your wardrobe in a Spring-Cycling mood… Dress – Lisa Wrap, People Tree: Makers of Fair Trade fashion, People Tree have come up with this dress featuring a cute bicycle print. Made in a simple everyday shape, it’ll make a great summer wardrobe staple, and a comfy dress to ride in. Hat: Straw Fedora, Topshop: Made from natural straw with unfussy detailing, the […]
October is shaping up to be a busy month for VCG, and the 1st week was packed with cycling-related events to keep me on my toes… or should that be on my saddle? Starting off with an evening at the W Hotel for the Bicycle Film Festival (don’t forget, there is still the special event on the 12th which I’ll be at!) it was a chance to preview some of the ace films that were shown over the weekend, and to see Chinatown in its beautiful night-time glory. I adore how the huge lanterns suspended above the street looked like golden moons… The following day started off with an early […]
It’s been an exciting couple of weeks for Vélo-City-Girl. After doing a quick photo-shoot and interview last week for the Evening Standard, on Sunday I filmed at Look Mum No Hands for The Cycle Show on ITV4! I was their guest presenter for episode two, interviewing the Near Naked Man cycling group & chatting on the sofa. I thrilled to be asked to be a part of it – especially as it’s a brand new show dedicated to something so close to my heart. Of course, it wouldn’t be VCG if there wasn’t a touch of Cycle Chic to my outfit for the day… Bike Lane Dress: Anthropologie Cardigan: Monsoon […]
It’s rather hard to believe it’s Summer in the UK at the moment. Torrential rain, dark skies and wearing wellies in July? I think we’ve been robbed of the sunshine for long enough! Something that has injected some rays of light into my world is the colour Pink. Now, I’m not usually a pink girl, but thanks to the Cambridge Satchel Company releasing their limited edition ‘Pastel’ range of bags, I was inspired to put together a fuchsia-fashion mix (yes, a handbag can set off a whole new outfit for me) which I reckon would look damned ace on the Pashley…or any bicycle for that matter… Rio Top by Vivienne of Holloway: The vintage violet […]
Last Friday saw the launch of ‘Style The Cyclist’ – a fabulous competition Bikeminded are running in collaboration with Harrods. When I received an invitation to attend the Bloggers launch party a couple of weeks ago (the invitation being box of Ladurée Macarons, which were hand delivered to my house!), I knew it was going to be something rather special… The aim of ‘Style The Cyclist’ immediately struck a chord with Vélo-City-Girl. As Kathryn King of Bikeminded explains: “The competition aims to show that fashion and cycling can go hand-in-hand, with the latest trends from the catwalk looking just as good on two wheels” ‘Style The Cyclist’ is a brilliant chance for any fashionistas out there to […]
Sunday 6th May saw the return of the London Tweed Run. Five-hundred of us gathered together with our steeds for what still remains the most sartorial cycle in the city. There were some excellent surprises throughout the day, including a celebrity rider taking part for the first time…When The Boy & I were confirmed as having places, we both excitedly started wardrobe planning for the event. He put together a splendid outfit this year, which made me happy… Cycling Cap: Vélobici Shirt: Hawes & Curtis Tanktop & Tie: Tweedmans Vintage Breeks: Courtesy of @thefixedfactor Argyle Socks: J. Alex Swift Brogues: Clarks Shoes My planned attire for the day was a beautiful dress from Anthropologie. As […]
The sun came out to play last Sunday. We had a lazy morning. Then decided to head out and roll with the sunshine. The Boy rode in Red. This Lady rode in ice cream ripple colours. Lillies were out on the Pond. Boy being… well, a ‘boy’ on his bike. A slow cycle home in the evening light. Finished with a Gingery delight. London in the Spring on our bikes. Welcome back.
From Blogging about cycle style to uploading my outfits and accessories on Instagram, it’s clear that combining fashion with technology is a love of mine. So, when I received an invitation from Westfield London to attend the digital focused ‘Future Fashion’ / ‘We Are Fashion’ Bloggers event on Monday, I was intrigued & simply had to go! The concept of ‘Future Fashion’ is a digital celebration of the launch of Spring/Summer 2012 across both Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City. Across five zones, shoppers will be able to create their own looks and styles from SS/2012 using interactive touch screens (which I got a preview of) Tweet Mirrors & social media photo booths and […]
From an email I received from Horst A. Friedrichs back in May 2011 which lead to some amazing photo-shoots & meetings: fast forward to March 2012 and ‘Cycle Style’ the book has been published… with a rather familiar ‘Lady’ with a Pashley on the back cover. At the risk of sounding like a gushing mess, this is one of the best things to have happened to me! I was over the moon when Horst asked me to be a part of his project, but being the cover girl on the book has completely blown me away. The book is beautiful, with its varied mix of London Cyclists across 192 pages. Horst has done such an […]
You know what I’m like when it comes to bold accessories: you can never have too many in your life… so when the Marni at H&M collaboration was announced, I was more than interested to see if their jewellery range would live up to the true Marni standard. Those chunky bracelets, big statement necklaces, ribbons, wood, beads & acrylic magic… it was all there. The preview confirmed the capsule collection was gorgeous; and at a more affordable price, I had to have some of it. As I’ve been planning out my Spring Cycling wardrobe already (which consists of me spying random items I love and mixing them up with what I […]
About Lady Vélo
I started Vélo-City-Girl when I got my Pashley Princess in March 2010, after a ten year absence from the saddle. VCG is all about cycling and the many different forms it comes in, there is something for everyone.
