Can you believe its been two years since I broke-out my finest tweed ensemble (where has that time gone?), so last weekend VCG made a slight return to the event. I say ‘slight’ as me and The Boy didn’t actually ride it, but we were intrigued by the new twist on the Tweed Run… the Cycle Revolution Festival. While nothing about the actual ride has changed under its new umbrella of Bourne and Hollingsworth (these are the people who host events such as The Chap Olympiad and Blitz Party – so not much danger of the traditional vibe being lost), this year they introduced the festival to run as a satellite to […]

The 7th annual Tweed Run rolled into London on the 18th of April and after weeks of planning, the day had come for me to bring that poster to life (in more detail than I anticipated), and ride alongside 700 stylish cyclists through the city… Glorious sunshine was the order of the day as that elusive yellow orb made an appearance in a clear blue sky- result! Before riding off on the Pashley and Colourbolt, me and the dashingly dressed Boy checked off the VCG list of essential Tweed Run requirements… Outfits: pressed and presentable ✔️ Bicycles: roadworthy and clean ✔️ Phones & cameras: charged ✔️ Picnic: wrapped & packed ✔️ Appetite: large and […]

With the dress made and ready for the ride, the remaining thing to sort for my Tweed Run outfit was the hat. When Nisa presented me with my finished garment, she also kindly gave me a small roll of dogtooth tweed that was left over… “this might come in handy later” she said with a knowing smile, and then pointed me in the direction of a milliner she regularly saw in Old Spitalfields Market. Nisa had remembered the there was a matching Pill Box hat in the poster. The last past of the puzzle was falling into place. I won’t lie – I’d never really been a ‘proper’ hat woman. I always […]

So, you may have noticed I’m even more excited than usual about the Tweed Run. For this years ride, the poster was designed by the brilliant Eliza Southwood. It features a woman (huzzah to that!) and that woman was inspired by… me. It feels pretty unreal to say that, and I’m still quite bowled over by it. I love planning and putting together an outfit for the Tweed Run – its always been one of my favourite things about the event. As this one is a bit special, I decided to have a more fun and let life imitate art: I had to try and recreate the outfit from Eliza’s amazing […]

My favourite cycling event of the year swung around again last Saturday: the sixth annual London Tweed Run! Although VCG was there in spirit last year, I was counting down the days to taking part in the ride this time. With the temperature hitting 23 degrees, organiser Ted Young-Ing couldn’t have chosen a better day for the event… which also led to a last moment change of my planned outfit for the day. I doff my cap to those who preserved in full tweed, but I suspect I would have baked in Central London with the suit I had in mind! To be perfectly honest, my cyclestyle for the day faded […]

What-what?! Saturday sees the return of London’s most stylish bike ride… The Tweed Run is back! Celebrating its fifth birthday, this years Tweed Run is set to be a marvellous day. With yet another wonderful route planned around the city and the weather promising to be good, I’m sure all those who won a place will have a fantastic time. This year I won’t be on the Tweed Run, as I’m off to the South West today with Vulpine for an amazing weekend at Bespoked Bristol! But wait – Frankie has been given a clean and is ready to roll on Saturday morning… as The Boy will be riding on […]

Sunday 6th May saw the return of the London Tweed Run. Five-hundred of us gathered together with our steeds for what still remains the most sartorial cycle in the city. There were some excellent surprises throughout the day, including a celebrity rider taking part for the first time…When The Boy & I were confirmed as having places, we both excitedly started wardrobe planning for the event. He put together a splendid outfit this year, which made me happy… Cycling Cap: Vélobici Shirt: Hawes & Curtis Tanktop & Tie: Tweedmans Vintage Breeks: Courtesy of @thefixedfactor Argyle Socks: J. Alex Swift Brogues: Clarks Shoes My planned attire for the day was a beautiful dress from Anthropologie. As […]

It’s less than 24 hours to go until the Tweed Run & unlike my usual organised self, I found myself doing a last minute dash to get the final pieces for the day together! With a busy week off work, today was the only one I had to sort out some rather important elements of the Tweed Run – including picking up our Registration Packs from Rugby Ralph Lauren! I had a few pleasant surprises when I got there: the 1st was bumping into the lovely Loughton brothers John & Jim, who had just collected their packs from the store! I met them at the April Tweed Run, so it was lovely […]

It’s time to dust-off your Plus-Fours and polish your Pashleys… after the successful collaboration last month for the NYC Ride, Tweed Run have teamed-up again with Rugby Ralph Lauren for the return of the Tweed Run to London! Saturday 26th November is the date to note in your diaries, and I’m pleased to say that The Boy and I will be taking part, along with fellow Tweed-Run friends from earlier this year! This time starting-off from Covent Garden, the ride will end with what’s been described as an “exclusive soiree”. Of course the familiar elements of the Tweed Run will be present, including the Tea Stop and the coveted ‘Most Dapper Chap’ […]

What Ho dear readers! I must say, The Tweed Run has to be the best & most stylish cycling event in London… utterly spiffing! Riding towards St Paul’s in the splendid sunshine, I was filled with excitement – every so often we’d encounter other participants heading there, who dinged their bells or tooted their horns to say “Pip Pip!” This was an understatement of how friendly everyone there was going to be 🙂 Even though I knew that it was a big event, it was still breathtaking to see so many cyclists together in Paternoster Square all decked out in seriously chic Tweed… Cycling through the roads of Central London was unbelievable! The […]

I finally have my outfit together for the Tweed Run! The Shoes and the Bag were the last items needed to complete it… almost had a breakdown at work today as the delivery didn’t show up until 16:00 – and our Post Room closes at 16:30! Just a quick iPhone picture of it – there will of course be proper pictures and details (including accessories) on the day, but this is a taster of it 🙂 Again, if anyone wants to meet / say “hello” on Saturday, drop me a message on Twitter (@ladyvelo) or email me using the link on the blog… see you on Saturday… Pip Pip! 🙂

I got a place on The Tweed Run 2011 🙂 Registration for it was an intense affair and the places went faster than I could have imagined. I knew that it was going to be busy – but I had no idea how fast it would go. I’d managed to register by 11:57… and then by 12:03… The Q&A Post on Registration that Tweed Run did earlier in the week said something about being on the page a “bit before noon” for registration. When I loaded up the site at about 9a.m (I had to be up early on Saturday morning for something else anyway) I saw a message saying it would be […]

Tweed Run 2011 is coming… and I want to be a part of it! The 3rd annual Tweed Run is happening in London on the 9th April 2011 and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that me and my Pashley will be there. The coverage & pictures of it last year (thanks to the Tweed Run site and bloggers such as ibikelondon) looked fantastic & convinced me that I’d take part in the next one.Registration is £5 and opens at midday on Saturday 26th Feb (this weekend) – and all proceeds go to bikes4Africa! I know that places go pretty fast… so that will be me glued to my MacBook in […]
