Its been a while since I’ve attended a big cycling trade show, and there now has to be quite a pull for me to go to one these days. So when VeloVixen spoke to me about an idea they had put together with The Cycle Show at the NEC, they had my attention… and me saying “HELL YES” to being part of their plan. VeloVixen created the Women’s Cycling Hub: a year in the making, they laid on an area solely devoted to women’s cycling. It offered a mix of female-specific clothing brands to try and buy and it boasted its own speaking zone – giving a platform to women […]

A few weeks ago I was blasting around Derbyshire on a vintage Italian road bike climbing and descending for 30 miles… certainly not your average weekend ride for me, as I took part in L’Eroica Britannia! Courtesy of Lush Handmade Cosmetics, VCG attended the inaugural British leg of the iconic event, which was transported from the rolling hills of Tuscany to the beautiful Peak District. Founded in 1997 with just 92 riders, L’Eroica (which literally translates as ‘The Heroic’) is a vintage themed sportive, born from the love of cycling, history and literature of Italy. Its original intention was to raise awareness of the traditional ’strade bianchi’ (white gravel roads) […]

What better way to mark Bike Week in the UK by being out on the saddle? It was a tale of two bicycles for me: a day on a Boris Bike rather far away from home, and another going for a spin around Shoreditch on my Pashley resulting in a street-fashion shoot… It was an early start on Tuesday morning, catching the train up to Berkshire to film with The Cycle Show. I spent the day with the crew at the Transport Research Laboratory in Wokingham. We filmed a bicycle safety feature at TRL. It was fantastic and an education to be there, and check out the safer cycling innovations […]

After an fantastic Summer of Cycling in the UK this year and a certain ITV4 show dedicated to the subject, it was only fitting a wrap-party should be thrown to celebrate The Cycle Show! Just as the invitation stated, you needed to be jingling to get in… and there were plenty of bells at the event! Held at the Red Bull Studios in London, it was a great chance to see The Cycle Show team and everyone involved in the production again after all the hard work put in over the series. There were drinks, laughter, lots of bell ringing and of course… bikes! We were all treated to an […]

August is always a busy month for me with the day-job (it’s now Clearing time in the UK University I work for in case you were wondering… it eats all my time), but its gotten rather hectic for all things VCG too. I’ve been unable to blog until now as I’m playing MAJOR catch-up with plenty of bike-related matters at the moment… but believe me, I’m not complaining! Anything to do with bikes makes me happy… There has been more work with The Cycle Show on ITV4: it has been an absolute blast working with the team on there for the past few weeks and meeting a wide variety of cyclists along […]

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks for Vélo-City-Girl. After doing a quick photo-shoot and interview last week for the Evening Standard, on Sunday I filmed at Look Mum No Hands for The Cycle Show on ITV4! I was their guest presenter for episode two, interviewing the Near Naked Man cycling group & chatting on the sofa. I thrilled to be asked to be a part of it – especially as it’s a brand new show dedicated to something so close to my heart. Of course, it wouldn’t be VCG if there wasn’t a touch of Cycle Chic to my outfit for the day… Bike Lane Dress: Anthropologie Cardigan: Monsoon […]
