UPDATE: Missed the event? The full conversation with Ayesha was filmed! Watch the full video RIGHT HERE thanks to LDN Bike Kitchen! 🎥 Representation is important. If I’d seen another black person in cycling when I was a kid, maybe I would have been inspired to get into it sooner. Ayesha McGowan – a.k.a A Quick Brown Fox. Statements like this hit home hard with me… as do women like Ayesha McGowan. If you’re up on your cycling game you’ll know that Ayesha is on a mission to become the first female African American professional road cyclist. She’s also spent the last five years working her way up the ranks […]
(UPDATE: The feature is up on the BBC News Magazine site, which can be viewed anywhere in the world! Click here for article and video) I was back out on my Pashley Princess yesterday for a ride to Broadway Market (fast becoming a favourite place to ride to) for one of my Cycle Saturdays with The Boy. This one was a bit different though, as I spent the morning filming a piece for Newsnight with BBC Hague correspondent Anna Holligan… Keen cyclist Anna, along with producer Hannah & camera man / editor Suraj set off from The Netherlands on 31st July for a grand bike tour to London. I was thrilled […]
August is always a busy month for me with the day-job (it’s now Clearing time in the UK University I work for in case you were wondering… it eats all my time), but its gotten rather hectic for all things VCG too. I’ve been unable to blog until now as I’m playing MAJOR catch-up with plenty of bike-related matters at the moment… but believe me, I’m not complaining! Anything to do with bikes makes me happy… There has been more work with The Cycle Show on ITV4: it has been an absolute blast working with the team on there for the past few weeks and meeting a wide variety of cyclists along […]
It’s been an exciting couple of weeks for Vélo-City-Girl. After doing a quick photo-shoot and interview last week for the Evening Standard, on Sunday I filmed at Look Mum No Hands for The Cycle Show on ITV4! I was their guest presenter for episode two, interviewing the Near Naked Man cycling group & chatting on the sofa. I thrilled to be asked to be a part of it – especially as it’s a brand new show dedicated to something so close to my heart. Of course, it wouldn’t be VCG if there wasn’t a touch of Cycle Chic to my outfit for the day… Bike Lane Dress: Anthropologie Cardigan: Monsoon […]
About Lady Vélo
I started Vélo-City-Girl when I got my Pashley Princess in March 2010, after a ten year absence from the saddle. VCG is all about cycling and the many different forms it comes in, there is something for everyone.
